How To Decarb Weed

Decarboxylating cannabis is an important step before making tinctures or edibles. Many people decarb their weed before they smoke it in blunts and bowls also. The main reason decarbing is popular is it releases more of the THC the plant can continue to produce. Without this reaction, your cannabis cannot live up to its complete potential.

Decarboxylating basically means heat activating. When you smoke or perhaps vape cannabis, decarboxylation happens naturally from the heat you use so a lot of people do not bother decarbing unless they are making edibles.  That is exactly where it can make most pronounced difference.

The heat actually converts some of the substances in the weed into different substances. Namely, this is true for THCA and THC.

How To Decarb Weed: Converting THCA Into THC

The main psychoactive component in weed, THC, deserves the credit for the stoned feeling that cannabis induces. Because it interacts with CB1 receptors in the Endocannabinoid System, it screws with motor coordination, increases euphoria, and makes memory implanting fuzzy, among other things.

Nevertheless, fresh cannabis does not have much THC at all. The THC results after THCA changes into THC from exposure to air and heat.

THCA itself is not intoxicating. It merely exists in fresh weed. As far as we know right now, this cannabinoid is for the plant and not for us.

How To Decarb Weed: Blast Bacteria

There’s one more serious reason to decarb marijuana you are likely to cook with. When you do not, the moisture inside the plant can infect your edibles with botulism bacteria. Skip that and decarb!

Unless the weed you are using has been sitting around some time. As cannabis dries and ages, THCA naturally converts to THC. Obviously, the moisture also slowly evaporates. You could be sure your cannabis is in perfect cured condition by warming it up carefully before cooking with it.

It is a wise idea to perform this before making tinctures also. It isn’t going to hurt, it may help, and it could actually keep you safer. That’s a no-brainer.

How To Decarb Weed: How To Decarb Step By Step

The simplest way to decarb cannabis is usually to bake it. If you’re a purist or something, you can try to bake it in the sun, but most of us use an oven.

Assemble the following:

  • Finely ground cannabis;
  • a baking tray;
  • an oven;
  • Aluminum foil / parchment paper.

First, preheat the oven 225 F. This temp is ideal for decarbing, however, not cooking the weed of yours.
Line your baking tray with foil or perhaps parchment paper and then spread the weed evenly on top.
Then, bake the cannabis on the tray at 225 F for 50 minutes. If you’ve time, 200 F for seventy-five minutes is much more ideal.

Set a timer for safety!

When your timer sounds, take out the cannabis and allow it to cool. You might see a color change but that is what you really want as the plant releases water and converts cannabinoids.
